FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
L.A.P. Launches Project 001, Challenging One of
Performance Cycling's Last Remaining
Compromises
Founded by professional cyclists, the California company introduces integrated impact
protection engineered to preserve the speed, fit, and freedom demanded by
performance riders.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, California — July 25, 2026 — For decades, performance cycling has pursued a single
objective: go faster.
Frames became lighter.
Aerodynamics became more refined.
Drivetrains became more efficient.
Power became measurable.
Nutrition became precise.
Every gram mattered. Every watt mattered. Every marginal gain was chased.
Yet through generations of innovation, one compromise remained largely unchanged.
If a rider wanted maximum performance, they accepted minimal protection.
If they wanted more protection, they accepted more weight, more bulk, more heat, or reduced freedom of
movement.
L.A.P. believes performance cyclists should no longer have to make that choice.
Today, L.A.P. officially launches Project 001 – Founders Cut, introducing a new approach to performance
cycling apparel: premium race-ready garments with integrated impact protection engineered from the
beginning to prioritize lightweight construction, aerodynamic efficiency, breathability, and unrestricted
movement.
The objective was never to build a faster piece of armor.
It was to build a better piece of cycling apparel.
One where protection becomes part of performance—not its compromise.
BUILT BY THE PEOPLE WHO NEEDED IT
L.A.P. wasn't founded in a boardroom.
It was founded by professional cyclists.
After years of racing and training at the highest levels of the sport, the founders experienced firsthand the
consequences of high-speed crashes. Following serious injuries and the long road back to professional
competition, one question continued to surface:
Why had performance cycling engineered nearly everything except the rider?
Bikes continued to evolve.
Equipment continued to evolve.
Training continued to evolve.
Yet the apparel protecting the athlete remained fundamentally unchanged.
Rather than accept that reality, they set out to challenge it.
L.A.P. was created from a simple belief:
Protection should never come at the expense of performance.
A DIFFERENT PHILOSOPHY
Project 001 was not developed by asking how to add protection to existing cycling apparel.
It was developed by asking a different question:
What if protection could simply become part of the apparel itself?
The result is an integrated garment architecture designed to work with the rider—not against them.
Using D3O® impact protection integrated directly into the garment, Project 001 was engineered to
maintain the characteristics performance cyclists expect from premium apparel:
Light enough to race.
Aerodynamic enough to compete.
Breathable enough for long days in the saddle.
Flexible enough to move naturally with every effort.
Protection without unnecessary compromise.
Every material, panel, seam, and pocket was evaluated with the same objective: if it reduced performance, it
didn't belong.
FOUNDER STATEMENT
"As professional cyclists, we spent years chasing marginal gains. We obsessed over aerodynamics, rolling
resistance, tire pressure, and watts. But after experiencing serious crashes ourselves, we realized something didn't
add up.
The rider had become the least engineered part of the system.
We didn't want to build protective clothing that asked cyclists to sacrifice performance. We wanted to build
performance clothing that happened to protect the rider.
That belief became L.A.P., and Project 001 is where it begins."
— Joseph Lupien, Founder & CEO, L.A.P.
PROJECT 001 — FOUNDERS CUT
Project 001 marks the public introduction of L.A.P. and will be released as a limited Founders Cut
production.
The launch represents the first step in the company's long-term vision to advance performance cycling
apparel through engineering, thoughtful design, and continuous innovation.
Project 001 becomes available on July 25, 2026, exclusively through wearlap.com.
